The first round of the NJSIAA girls volleyball tournament gets underway with matches on Monday, Nov. 3.
Sectional finals are slated for Tuesday, Nov. 11 (public schools) and Thursday, Nov. 13 (Non-Public), with the state finals set to take place Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16, at Franklin High School in Somerset County.
Here is a breakdown of the brackets involving North Jersey schools.
Favorite: Old Tappan
2024 final: Old Tappan def. Sparta, 25-13, 25-19
First, let’s take a moment to give due respect to No. 1 seed River Dell (19-4). The Hawks tied Ramsey for first place in the Big North-Patriot to secure a share of their sixth consecutive division title. They prepped for this tournament with a five-set win over Bergen County top seed Ramapo and earned a first-round bye in the section.
That said, it is very difficult to choose a stronger favorite than Old Tappan (16-4) – even if the Golden Knights are not unbeaten, as they were last season. The reigning state champs begin with a bye, and the Nov. 1 Bergen County final against Immaculate Heart provided their tune-up. No. 3 Demarest (14-4) split the season series with Northern Valley rival Old Tappan.
